Foraging school with Joshua Quick

We welcome you to join our seasonal foraging school held in conjunction with the incredibly knowledgeable Joshua Quick from ‘Wild St Ives’ –– @Joshwildstives – Josh is an International member of the Association of Foragers with which promotes sustainability and ecological stewardship through teaching and harvesting wild plants and fungi for the use of food & drink.

Working with wild ingredients is something we are very passionate about, bringing us closer to the immediate world around us and learning about this relationship and how it can benefit our food and indeed the woodlands if ingredients are harvested properly. Alongside some of these ingredients are some of the most dangerous in the Northern Hemisphere, so knowing what not to pick is more important that what ingredients can be seen as being harvested for free. The New Yard’s passion for foraging is well known, as published in the book ‘Modern Gatherers’ by Jaime Molina and we would love to share our passion and knowledge with you.

How the day will pan out…

10:30 Meet at the New Yard Restaurant with Josh and Jeffrey for coffee and cake. An introduction from Joshua about his work and training along with recommended books and what to expect from the walk. An introduction from Jeffrey on the workings of the restaurant and its relationship to the wild ingredients on the estate.

11:00 Leave on a guided walk around the estate – Please bring appropriate footwear and clothing.

13:00 Arrive back to the restaurant for a re-cap on species with Joshua.

13:30 Lunch is served from our wood fired oven.

15:30 End of day
